What will you do with the time that is given you?

The words by dear & great Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy has always pierced me, just as I imagine it pierced little hobbit Frodo when Gandalf first uttered them. Still, I can almost hear his careful lips form the pivotal words: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Awe, what a wondrous prose. Time is vital, time is precious, time is a treasure, and as we grow in holiness, it is ever essential to fill each minute of our time with only that which inspires and resurrects sweet hope.

As a sensitive soul, I’ve spent my teen years diving into the invigorating (and frustrating at times) search to find movies that fill my precious time with goodness and bring me increased courage to honor what beautiful story God is writing for me. Unlike many of my ancestors, I grew up with the ubiquitous TV on the wall in my family room since my childhood. The first movies that filled my hours consisted of the fond, innocent Tinkerbell, Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and more endless children collections. Then, as I grew, the movie plots pivoted with the growth of my age. My family always had the moral boundary to watch movies that inspired us or shaped our knowledge, but there were times when movies we chose weren’t as clean and moral as we’d planned, leaving us feeling yucky instead of uplifted.

In conclusion, I believe every movie we fill our time with should morally uplift, inspire, and encourage us to become the best versions of ourselves. Movies with dirty language, inappropriate sex scenes, contention, and violence are unworthy for those who seek and strive for a life of holiness and hope. That’s why I created the ultimate list of clean and moral family movies for individuals with this same belief.

What is a “CLEAN” Family Movie?

  • NO vulgarity / language
  • Honors roles of mother & father
  • Speaks of our Creator
  • Little to NO realistic violence
  • NO sexual references / nudity / premarital housing
  • Refrains from Contention
  • Lighthearted & thought-provoking
  • Script and plot that inspires courage and hope
  • Stands for life, God, and family

How Can I Find & Filter Wholesome Family Movies?

We have found the best and easiest ways to find clean family movies is through Great American Pureflix. (I am not an affiliate). We began our subscription. in 2023 and it was the best digital streaming decision we could have made! All movies on there are clean and moral, with values focused on Christianity and giving your life to God. Many of their movies are exclusively on Pureflix, and others you can find on Prime video or DVD. A few of our very favorites can be found in the ultimate list below. On Great American Family, you never have to worry about turning on a movie and hearing naughty language or sexual references, they keep their movies edited and pure for the whole family.

Another way we find clean movies as a family is by checking the parents guide on IMDb or Common Sense Media before we watch or rent a movie. Depending if they have rated the specific movie you’ve searched for, you can find the quantity and description about each category in the movie (I.e. language, violence, etc). If anything inappropriate was specified, you know whether the movie needs to be filtered or not.

As for filtering movies, we ALWAYS filter our movies through Clearplay (I am not an affiliate). Their company is phenomenal in their cause to make almost any movie editable through their own DVD editing players, and streaming accounts. As you can relate, so many movies are made with such an inspiring story and value behind, but despite how remarkable the theme may be, companies cannot refrain from including filthy lines and scenes in the script. I’ve asked the same question countlessly, “if only they just took out all the swearing, the whole movie would be perfect!” Unfortunately, my review hasn’t quite made it to Hollywood, and I don’t think it will anytime soon. Perhaps you’ve felt the same.

Clearplay makes it possible to take almost any movie and filter it using their DVD player or their streaming subscription, and we use it weekly, if not more when cozy family nights come more often 😉

  1. Our whole family absolutely loves “All Creatures Great and Small” on PBS. It’s a TV series about a young veterinarian named James Herriot who gets a job in the Yorkshire Dales, and follows all the small town hijinx of his farmyard and town folk clientele. It’s based on the memoirs of the real James Herriot, and highlights all of his integrity, diligence, and goodness. There’s a very sweet love story over the four (soon to be five) season. It’s just wonderful!

    Loved these recommendations!

    1. We love “All Creatures Great and Small” just as much, too!! My mom and I just finished an episode to the fourth season yesterday, mentioning it. I didn’t include it here hoping to write a post for seasoned shows specifically, but I’m so happy you mentioned it here 😊
