No matter where you are, we are in this together, recreating our lives to sing the song of exquisite, sweet hope.

Meet Makenzie

Daughter. Sister. Dreamer. .Survivor.

Hey there! I’m Makenzie – homeschool graduate, dress lover, book girl, watercolor artist, flower collector, thrifting enthusiast, dreamer, and the creator behind Sweet Hope. What started as my quaint journal on the internet at 13 years-old has expanded into a safe haven blog for Christian women of all ages seeking to shape their lives in all things hope & healing. I hope you’re here to stay!

In January 2023 at 16 years-old, I sustained a traumatic brain injury falling from a flip lift at ballroom rehearsal. Little did I realize that when the back of my head hit the hardwood floors, my life would change forever. I went from running my own housecleaning business, hosting my own faith group for nationwide girls, and driving around the Pacific Northwest for musical lessons, to lying on the mattress of my bed in seizures, fever, chronic pain, debiladating psychosis attacks, and disabled in countless ways, including being unable to walk and talk. Month after month, I faced recurring thoughts of suicide, mind terrors of being hunted and scarred, isolating anxiety of the world around me, and depression so hollowing to my soul.

For two years, my gentle heart was surviving a hell I didn’t want to know, neither touch, nor see. But it was there in my broken mind every day and there was only way to heal and feel my Lord’s love again, one step at a time. The way to heal was hope. Exquisite, sweet hope. Hope that inspired me to stay grateful for the flowers on my bedside. Hope that inspired me to clothe my trembling body in quality, modest clothing that reverenced my unchanged worth. Hope that inspired me to keep dreaming when my heart was broken. Hope that inspired me to read the mighty quotes of history’s finest warriors of suffering. Hope that inspired me to enscribe poetry as I lay bedridden in my room. Hope that inspired me to cleave to Jesus and, even through my agony, still love Him. For He is my Hope.

I am still seeking the healing that will one day come from the life of sweet hope I’m striving for each day. Now residing in the wide heart of Waco, Texas with my family, I am stepping closer, reaching continually for Christ in the continual dawns of sweet hope that find me, preparing to steward a life of continuous healing.

Perhaps you are in the same place: still waiting, still grieving, still weeping, still trembling, still aching, still questioning.
But hoping. That’s what calls you here.

WHERE I FIND HOPE:

SUPPORT SWEET HOPE.

This is not just a blog, this is a movement.

What started as my personal journal on the internet has blossomed into a mighty call from Jesus to create a safe haven for souls like you seeking a life of hope, holiness, and confidence in Christ. I am here with my love for Jesus to share, inspire, and empower you to fully embrace your strive for healing in every part of your life – both broken and beautiful.

In this movement, we rise in modesty, holy living, faith, poetry, creativity, and healing. We honor the gift of life – beginning at conception until our God sweeps us home. We value the experience of suffering that molds us beneath the Potter’s hand. And we believe in who we are becoming each day as we strive in every way to break through the darkness & live our cause of exquisite, sweet hope.
